ANDREW FILMER

Andrew Filmer

Andrew Filmer (MM in Performance - Viola 2008). We are very proud of his most recent accomplishment: the Journal of the American Viola Society has published in its Fall 2008 issue his article "Power-Plays in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante", part of the first prize of the David Dalton Viola Research Competition 2008.

He would like to acknowledge Anthony Devroye, Dr. Barton, Dr. Kolt and Dr. Arrigo-Nelson in making this research project a reality.

Andrew Filmer is currently preparing to apply for doctoral studies and hopes to research Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in the near future.

Special Opportunities

The Performer's Certificate honors students who exhibit exceptional abilities in music performance. A student is nominated for the Performer's Certificate upon the favorable vote of two-thirds of the faculty present at the recital hearing.

Students may also receive the Composer's Certificate, which honors composition majors who exhibit exceptional abilities. Composition majors will normally be considered for this award in conjunction with their senior recital in composition.

Piano students may have the opportunity to study with Alexander D. Toradze, Martin Endowed Professor in Piano at IU South Bend. Toradze is an internationally renowned keyboard virtuoso in the grand Romantic tradition.

Careers

Music performance degrees prepare students to pursue a performing career or teach their instrument in a private studio. Some music graduates pursue careers in related fields such as arts administration.
