Yuri Obata

Yuri Obata was born and grew up in Japan. Originally, she came to the United States to pursue a music degree at the University of Michigan. After completing her study there, she became interested in studying mass media. Obata graduated with a Ph.D. from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder in August of 2005. Before coming to IU South Bend, she taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and participated in a research program in the East Asian Studies at Dickinson College. During the academic year of 2007-08, she was invited to the Clarke Program for the Asian Law and Culture at Cornell Law School as a postdoctoral fellow. Her research/teaching interests are communication law and culture, Japanese and international mass media and popular culture, and laws on pornography.
